Documentaries

Really looking forward to seeing the Ken Burns documentary Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson. It airs on PBS beginning the 17th and 18th (two parts, I think).

Since I'm starting a self-taught crash-course in documentary film-making, does anyone have any recommendations about what I should check out? Documentaries I should watch? Books I should read?
