What's the Matter with Kansas?

Well right now it's frozen under a couple of inches of ice, for one thing (photo) . (Seriously, look at the photo.) Beyond that, I'm trying to figure it out as I have just started reading Thomas Frank's book, What's the Matter with Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America.
